Important Security Alert: Beware of Fraudulent Activities

An important message from the OceanAir Risk Management Team

Dear Valued Members,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you of a recent increase in fraudulent activities targeting our members. Fraudsters are spoofing OceanAir Credit Union phone numbers, impersonating our employees, and sending emails that appear to be from our official addresses. 

Types of Fraud: 

• Phishing: Scammers use emails, calls, or texts to trick you into providing sensitive information. 

• Vishing: Fraudsters call you, pretending to be from a trusted institution, to steal personal information.  

• Smishing: Deceptive text messages are used to manipulate you into revealing personal details. 

What You Need to Know: 

1. Phone Number Spoofing: Scammers make it look like they are calling or texting from OceanAir Credit Union. If you receive an unexpected call or text, hang up and call us directly 805-988-2151. 

2. Employee Impersonation: Fraudsters may pose as OceanAir employees to gain your trust and extract sensitive information. Do not provide any One Time Passcodes or sensitive information—hang up and call us directly 805-988-2151. 

3. Email Phishing: Fraudulent emails may look like they are from OceanAir Credit Union but often contain harmful links or attachments. Do not click on links or open attachments from unknown senders. 

How to Protect Yourself: 

• Verify the Caller: Hang up and call us back at our official phone number: 805-988-2151, email us at [email protected], chat online through our online banking chat feature, or visit your local branch. 

• Do Not Share Personal Information: Never provide your account details, Social Security number, One Time Passcodes, or other sensitive information unless you are certain of the recipient’s identity. 

• Check Email Addresses: Official communications from OceanAir Credit Union will come from our domain “@oceanair.org”. 

• Report Suspicious Activity: Contact us immediately at 805-988-2151, email us at [email protected], chat online through our online banking chat feature, or visit your local branch.

If you suspect you have engaged with a fraudster and compromised any sensitive information, please contact us right away so we can take the necessary precautions to ensure your assets are safe.
